Let’s start at the beginning of my business journey. I was working my first (and last) company job at one plant of a commercial laundry enterprise, first as a monorail operator of the “clean linen” department, then as lead hand of the “dirty linen” department. Having grown up on TV shows and movies where businesses are run perfectly and things usually go smoothly (outside of dramatic events for entertainment), I was shocked at the differences between how businesses were portrayed and what I saw on the inside.
It was not perfect, things did not go smoothly, and worst of all, when I came up with solutions to make them smoother and easier for everyone, I faced obstacles of many kinds which, at a minimum created friction, and at a maximum completely blocked what seemed like any improvements at all from even being considered. I tried explaining, demonstrating, creating flow diagrams, multi-page proposals, and even entire instructional manuals but nothing moved.
However, I met someone I never would’ve expected to find at a laundry plant…
When someone writes an article he/she maintains the idea of
